What you need to know

Judo is a Japanese martial art that uses grappling and throwing techniques to subdue opponents. It emphasizes physical fitness, mental discipline, and sportsmanship. At Salt Lake City Judo, adults of all levels are welcome. We welcome you as part of the larger group, or you can message us about private or small group sessions for beginners.

Ukemi (breakfalls)

Ukemi refers to breakfall practice for safe falls on the mat.

Uchikomi (fit ins)

Uchikomi refers to entries into techniques without the full throw. Students work on refining their off-balancing, footwork, and posture. Often used as a warm-up.

Nagekomi (Throwing Practice)

Nagekomi means “Throwing repetitions”. Students will perform throws or techniques learned in class with a cooperative partner.

Randori (Sparring)

Randori refers to the portion of class with free sparring in a controlled safe environment, where students attempt to implement the techniques learned in class.
